ISEZ’s 5MW solar and gas-to-power projects aim to provide stable electricity and support long-term industrial growth in the Ihu SEZ
ISEZ has taken another major step toward strengthening its energy infrastructure and long-term development, signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Shenzhen Energy Group to drive two key power initiatives: a 5-megawatt solar project and a 5% DMO Gas-to-Power generation project. The signing ceremony was held at the Gateway Hotel, witnessing strong support from government partners, industry partners, and key stakeholders.
The event brought together several distinguished guests, including representatives from SEZA, DITI, Director for NPA Peter Koim, Mr. TianLong Guo, Managing Director of Shenzhen Energy, and Mrs. Ling Chow from Guangzhou, who serves as the ISEZ Liaison Officer for China.
According to Mr. Koim, “The Papua LNG Project presents a strong opportunity for synergy with the Ihu Special Economic Zone. Shared infrastructure between PLNG and ISEZ, including the availability of DMO gas, can provide the reliable power needed to support long-term industrial development within the zone.”
Throughout the ceremony, speakers reaffirmed the importance of reliable and sustainable energy in driving economic growth within the Ihu Special Economic Zone. Mr. Guo shared remarks expressing Shenzhen Energy’s strong commitment to advancing clean-energy solutions in Papua New Guinea.
A key announcement of the event came from Managing Director Peter KenGemar, who revealed that ISEZ will establish a dedicated office in Shenzhen, China, later this year. Selected officers will be stationed there to enhance collaboration and strengthen partnerships with Shenzhen Energy and other potential investors.
An important component of the MOA is the delivery of the Feasibility Study Reports for both the 5MW solar project and the DMO Gas-to-Power generation project, which will be undertaken by Shenzhen Energy Company (SEC). These reports are expected to be delivered by February 2026.
The 5MW solar project will also include the construction of power transmission lines to connect electricity directly to Kerema Town, ensuring that surrounding communities benefit from reliable and affordable power supply.
Shenzhen Energy Group Company Limited, founded in 1991 and headquartered in Shenzhen, is one of China’s leading integrated energy enterprises. The company operates across thermal, solar, wind, and natural gas power generation, with a strong global presence and a growing focus on renewable energy and international cooperation.
The successful signing of this MOA marks a significant milestone for the Ihu Special Economic Zone. With strengthened partnerships and strategic energy development underway, the establishment of the Shenzhen office will encourage and strengthen ISEZ development using the Shenzhen SEZ development model, while also serving as the official investment and trade office for the project.
