Land Development Partnership Program

Land Development Partnership is one of the most crucial programs for the Ihu Special Economic Zone to being carried out in 2023. It is fully funded by the National Government.

A massive awareness on Land Development Partnership Program and Environmental Impact Studies had started in November to December 2022 and covered the Muro, Popo Coast, Orokolo Coast, Upper Ahia, Lower Ahia, K4 areas and Vailala East as far as the Bluff areas.

A total of thirteen (13) locally based Community Leaders representing the entire footprint of the ISEZ project were recruited to serve as Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) between community they are active and the project area since March 2023.

Free Prior Informed Consent

One of the key activities being carried out by these Liaison officers is to assist in obtaining Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) from the community. Three hundred and one (301) clans have signed up for the FPIC forms representing close to ninety percent (90%) of the overall projected area who welcome the project.

Department of Lands & Physical Planning

ISEZ Lands Team works closely with the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.

Senior Officials from the Office of the Chief Physical Planner and our Lands team recently completed a flyover of the project site in February 2023 in preparation for the issuance of a Physical Planning Permit.

Phase 1 (one) of the Land Development Partnership Program was contracted out to Local Land Specialist Company - Kogum Consultancy Ltd. This program was completed in October 2023 and consisted of a Base Line Survey, Preliminary Social Mapping, Preliminary Socio-Economic Impact Study (SEIS), Identification of existing State Leases and a Preliminary Identification of Landowners. The program was mainly concentrated around the three ISEZ immediate targeted areas.

Phase 2 (two) of this program will be concentrated mainly on the Port Development, Industrial and Petroleum Park areas and the securing of current State Leases for Township Development. ISEZ is now working very closely with the National Department of Lands and Physical Planning on a major Land Acquisition exercise expected to be launched towards the end of 2024.
